Music effects the body/mind, and the body/mind of the player affects the playing of his or her music. Laurie discusses our cultural relationship with music, how the brain learns it, how we practice it, how we perform it, how we listen to it, how we teach it, and finally, how it is used in purposely therapeutic ways. The Jewel
"The Jewel" and
"Metamorphosis"

Sheet Music for Laurie's popular compositions "The Jewel" and "Metamorphosis." For intermediate level harpers.

"The Jewel" is a meditative piece in the key of B minor. The left hand carries the same rhythmic motif throughout. The right hand is comprised of single notes, and two- and three-note chords. Once you master the left hand pattern, the rest is easy. There are no accidentals in The Jewel, and the lowest note is the B which is one octave and one note below middle C.

"Metamorphosis" has a jazzy feel. It can be heard on "Collection." This tune will require a bit of practice at the intermediate level, and at the advanced level it is very attainable. Metamorphosis makes a great performance piece on stage. But it's also the type of tune that would really shine as background music at a casual gig. It's in the key of A minor, and the lowest note is the F which is one octave and a fifth below middle C. It is lever-free!

The "Jewel" and "Metamorphosis" contains six pages of printed music. published by Afghan Press.
