UPCOMING RETREATS for Therapeutic Musicians

CEU's available!

Come to beautiful Sedona, Arizona, for one or both of these exciting retreats to enjoy intense learning, playing, and camaraderie!

Sedona was voted America's Most Beautiful City, and for good reason.
Besides amazing scenery, the town has good entertainment, sightseeing, spas, and shopping for those who arrive early or stay a day or two after the retreat. Sedona is easily accessible (by shuttle or car) from the Phoenix airport. The Ace Express Shuttle can pick you up at the airport and take you to the retreat location or motel.
Reservations: 928-649-2720

Instructors:
Laurie Riley, CMP, ACCM
Tomas Winn, MT-BC, Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery, and Anthroposophical Music Therapist

OCTOBER 19-21, 2007: MUSIC STRUCTURES TO MAKE PLAYING EASY

Laurie's easy-to-understand method for learning basic and
intermediate Music Structures not only makes playing easier, but
takes the mystery out of memorization, pattern recognition, harmony,
chord structure, intervals, inversions, arranging and composition,
sight-reading, and so on. We will delve deeply into structures and
their uses and applications so that by the end of the weekend you
will have integrated the information and be able to use it automatically.

Tomas Winn will offer "Music for Your Heart", a hands-on continuation
of his Heart Math class from the spring retreat (if you weren't
there, that's OK; he'll be sure you can catch up). This time we will
each have an opportunity to play our instruments and observe the
resulting computer readouts that indicate the effects of the music on
our heart patterns.

Your instruments are needed for this retreat.

FEBRUARY 22-24, 2008: UNIVERSAL CONNECTIONS IN MUSIC, SCIENCE AND SPIRIT

By popular demand, Laurie is finally offering an in-depth, hands-on
exploration of Pythagorean Principles in music, the scientific study
of music's relationship to the structures of matter and physics. Why
should we study this? Because it shows us directly that music and
sound are the foundation of the universe as we know it, and how much
more profound are its effects on us and our patients than we may have
previously known.

For this retreat, your instruments are not needed, as there will be
some provided for demonstration purposes, and we will be
participating in other related hands-on activities. You are welcome
to bring your istrument if you wish, however.

FOR BOTH RETREATS:

The number of registrants will determine the facility we use. I often
rent a condo that can house participants at a rate lower than the
local motels, and we have classes in the living room. For large
groups, I rent a large room within walking distance of a motel.

Tuition for each retreat is $325 and includes all classes, if you
register at least 30 days before the retreat begins. (Thereafter the
tuition is $375.) Please register early, as there may be a waiting
list if we fill up.

Meals and lodging are separate.

"All the good parts of me as a harpist are the products of your positive approach to teaching... I cannot thank you enough for transforming my life." - LaVon Jakobson, student "Without a doubt the course is wonderful. It has so much information that is valuable... but more than that, it has a wealth of information about the mind/body connection, about sound, about how the mind and sound/music affects so many aspects of our lives. Even if I never played for patients, it is teaching me a great deal about myself, my emotions, and how to live a richer, fuller life by opening a whole new world to me. If you've looked at other programs, you know about the enormous expense and the time involved. Laurie's course is the best bargain both financially and for the information she provides about every aspect of playing therapeutic music. Level 1 thoroughly teaches you what you need to know to get started with confidence playing the right kind of music in clinical settings. I didn't imagine what Level 2 could add, because it seemed so complete, but Level 2 has blown me away! Her required readings and her own textbooks are so valuable and absolutely fascinating on a wide variety of subjects. DO IT. You'll not regret it."
- Nell Morris, student, harpist
